Program Overview

Remote Island Medicine Summer Abroad Internship provides students interested in healthcare with an immersive experience grounded in cultural exchange, ethical global health, and global citizenship. Begin the program in Manila, where you'll explore the Philippine healthcare system through seminars, healthcare facility visits, and cultural activities before traveling to a remote island community. There, you'll observe healthcare delivery alongside municipal health officers, nurses, and midwives working in Rural Health Units and Barangay Health Stations. Learn how frontline providers deliver essential care in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas while addressing limited resources and unique public health challenges. Through clinical observations, community-based public health activities, and meaningful cultural immersion, you'll gain firsthand insight into rural healthcare systems and island communities. The program is provided by Child Family Health International (CFHI).
