The program arranges for students to stay in shared traditional Italian flats (apartment) that are centrally located in the city. You will roommate with other participants of the program. You will share a living area and kitchen with essential and basic supplies. Each building and apartment is different so the location within the city and building amenities will vary between your place and other participants of the program. These apartments also have local Italians living in the same building as these are not student-only housing.
Because some of the buildings in Italy are centuries old, modern conveniences like dishwashers, air conditioning, washer and dryer (line dry or go to a laundromat) are not guaranteed to be available in your flat. Remember, your housing is only temporary, and this is the typical lifestyle for local Italians.
UC Davis reserves the right to change the accommodation location. Should this be necessary, we will arrange alternative lodging. Please note that elevators, air conditioners and other modern conveniences may not be available in all locations.
Meals are not included in the program cost and are the responsibility of the participant. Each apartment has a kitchen equipped with basic essentials for preparing meals. There are grocery options and cafes within walking distance to accommodations.
Global Experiences provides social events and excursions designed to expose you to the local culture while helping you network with employers and others interning and working in their host city. These excursions and activities change from year-to-year. A sampling of past events have included:
- Welcome Aperitivo Event
- Museum Day
- Lake Como & Boat Tour Day Trip
- Designer Outlet Shopping
- Italian Cooking Class
- Venice Day Trip
- Farewell Dinner
From Lonely Planet – Milan: Milan is Italy’s city of the future, a fast-paced metropolis where money talks, creativity is big business and looking good is an art form.
Participation in this UC Davis Study Abroad program requires travel to and extended living in a foreign location(s) abroad. UC Davis Study Abroad endeavors to reduce and mitigate risk wherever possible. However, the environments and risks associated with living in these locations are substantially different than those found during a regular course of study at UC Davis. All participants must download and review the following information prior to departure. Any questions should be directed to the Program Coordinator.
