Immigrant and Refugee Health Internships in California

UC Davis Summer Abroad Internships is an academic program that aims to enhance students’ education by incorporating academic coursework with experiential learning outside of the classroom setting. This program carries a total of 6.00* quarter units in five weeks. 

Students on Summer Abroad Internship programs earn regular UC Davis course credit which may be used to fulfill degree, major, minor, General Education (GE) requirements. UC Davis students can use Summer Abroad courses to fulfill their academic requirements as listed in the General Catalog. Students from other campuses should consult with the academic advisors from their home campuses to determine whether courses taken on our programs may be used to fulfill their specific academic requirements. 

Auditing is not an option.

Immigrant and Refugee Health Internships in California - Draft Syllabus (PDF)

Courses

Education Abroad (EAP) 192. Internship (4 units)

Students will intern 30-35 hours per week at their program site and will be able to apply for transcript notation through the UC Davis Internship and Career Center.

Chicana/o Studies (CHI) 198S. Directed Group Study: Global Health Reflection (2 units)

Directed Group Study: Global Health Reflection is intended as a forum to connect the work students do at their internship to its broader social and cultural context. Through online discussions students will have a community with whom to share their reflections on the realities and ethics of health careThis course includes participation on excursions and tours and attendance to guest lectures. Students are often asked to write reflective pieces. Assignment topics vary by program.

No prerequisites are enforced for this program beyond the general eligibility requirements.
