Widening Circles—Global Social Impact Program
Program Cost
Widening Circles is a fully-funded program that covers the cost of the $500 program fee and provides an opportunity for a $2,000 travel grant to support students pursuing an in-person or hybrid social impact internship or volunteer opportunity. Program elements:
- Online learning, mentorship & community
- Peer-to-peer learning & discussion groups
- Digital storytelling to document experience
- Option to add social impact internship (in-person or virtual)
Students who elect an in-person internship or volunteer experience will have out-of-pocket expenses, including transportation to/from site and daily estimated costs which vary for each internship/volunteer experience.
Program Funding
Undergraduate Students
Undergraduate students should apply to participate in this funded opportunity through the UC Davis Undergraduate Funding.
Program Fee Application
- $500 that covers the cost of the program fee to Omprakash.
- Eligibility: All UC Davis undergraduate students.
- Application Process:

- Timeline:
- Application dates: January 6–March 16
- Funding is awarded on a first-completed, first-reserved basis.
Travel Grant Award
- $2,000 travel grant to support students pursuing an in-person or hybrid social impact internship or volunteer opportunity.
- Eligibility: All undergraduate participants of the UC Davis Widening Circles program who are pursuing a social impact internship, volunteer experience or research project that is in-person or has an in-person component. This can be abroad or within the U.S.
- Application Process:
- Complete the online application for the program fee award and the travel grant (Note: these are separate applications).
- Respond to the prompt: Please share details about your first-choice social impact internship or volunteer activity: Which organization it is with? Why did you choose this organization? What type of work does the organization do? What you will be doing? Have you already applied? Had interviews? What dates are you planning for your in-person portion part of your internship? Feel free to provide any other information that helps share your process and commitment to securing an in-person internship for this summer. If the $2,000 award will not cover all your expenses during your internship, please comment on how you plan to cover the remainder of your costs, including travel, food, accommodations, etc.
Priority will be given to applicants who have already applied for their first-choice internship/volunteer activity or who already have a social impact internship or volunteer opportunity secured for the summer.
Timeline
- Application dates: January 6–March 16.
- Travel grants will be announced the second week of April.
