Summer Abroad Belgium - Travel

The study abroad program includes pre-departure and on-site orientations, requires students to arrange their own travel, provides visa guidance (none required for U.S. citizens), and offers insurance and additional resources for international and LGBTQIA+ travelers.

Summer Abroad Belgium - Cost

The "Microbiology in Belgium" program fees cover accommodations, select meals, transportation, and excursions, while personal expenses like airfare, entertainment, and medical emergencies are not included, with financial aid available for eligible students.

Summer Abroad Belgium - On Site

Students will stay in double-occupancy apartment-style hotels in central Brussels with included continental breakfast, a micro-kitchen, and onsite laundry, while the program features excursions, a city tour, and a transportation pass, with most meals and additional activities being self-arranged.

Jackie Barlow is an associate professor in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics and has been at UC Davis since 2014. She did her PhD at Columbia University in the Department of Genetics and Development studying DNA repair in the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Summer Abroad Thailand - Cost

The "Microbiology Lab in the Kingdom of Smiles" program provides financial aid opportunities for eligible students and includes various fees, such as a Summer Abroad Fee and course fees, while covering accommodations in comfortable hotels near Assumption University, most meals during excursions, transportation including airfare to Phuket, and necessary lab supplies, though personal expenses and entertainment costs remain the students' responsibility.

Professor Glenn Young is an internationally recognized expert of food safety and infectious disease microbiology. A seasoned international scholar—he has worked, lived and traveled throughout Thailand and the other Southeast Asian countries of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam.
