Session Proposal Process
Interested in proposing a conference session for the 2026 Global Learning Conference? Please see details and proposal form below. The deadline for submission is December 19, 2025.
Conference Description
The UC Davis Global Learning Conference strives to offer a balanced and informative conference that engages students with their global learning experiences in a way that is both reflective and forward thinking.
Global learning at UC Davis is a combination of local, regional, national, and international experiences through which students develop key skills, knowledge, and networks that help them build global awareness, engage with diverse cultures and experiences, and pursue collaborative and equitable global action. Learn more about the Global Learning Outcomes framework. Please remember that global learning is not limited to study abroad experience; our student attendees encompass a diverse range of global learning experiences.
We encourage you to explore the Global Learning Hub website to see the breadth of experiences offered by our office. The proposal selection committee will include sessions spanning a variety of topics. We are looking for session proposals with a global focus on career preparation or identity exploration. Sessions may include helping students reflect on their experiences with global learning as related to their personal identities, academic experiences, and career interests, connect global learning with career development, and focus on awareness and the solving of global challenges. Priority will be given to interactive session proposals. See here for examples of prior sessions.
Conference Theme Statement: Developing as Compassionate Global Leaders
We are looking for speakers and presenters who can give students tools and ideas to discover who they are as global leaders as well as share examples of what compassionate global leadership can be. This could include:
- How to engage effectively across differences;
- How to foster spaces of open dialogue; or
- How to help people connect with each other, even when there are cultural or other divides, as just a few examples.
We will also look for sessions or speakers who can encourage students to think about their power and positioning in the world, and how they can foster equitable and sustainable change now and in the future. We hope to bring in civic leaders from the local area who have a global lens to help students see how the local connects to the global when it comes to leadership, global challenges, and dialogue.
Session Categories
We recognize that proposals may integrate more than one session category, but we ask that you select the one that most resonates with your session.
Identity Exploration
Sessions focused on identity exploration may prompt students to reflect on not only their own identities, but also those of people they will encounter in an increasingly global landscape. Sessions in this category may encourage intercultural curiosity, identity formation, and skills for navigating and working across difference.
Career Preparation
Career preparation sessions may include a focus on identifying the career skills gained from global experiences and ways to continue developing them; incorporating global learning on resumes and in interviews; and preparing for opportunities after graduation. Examples of global experiences may occur in local, regional or international spaces.
All concurrent sessions will run for 65 minutes each (with a minimum of 5 minutes reserved for Q&A). If selected, a draft of your session will be due on Sunday, February 15, 2026.
