Thailand—Education

UC Davis Summer Abroad Internships are academic programs that aims to enhance students’ education by incorporating academic coursework with experiential learning outside of the classroom setting. This program carries a total of 6.00 quarter units in five weeks.

Students on Summer Abroad Internship programs earn regular UC Davis course credit which may be used to fulfill degree, major, minor, General Education (GE) requirements. UC Davis students can use Summer Abroad courses to fulfill their academic requirements as listed in the General Catalog. Students from other campuses should consult with the academic advisors from their home campuses to determine whether courses taken on our programs may be used to fulfill their specific academic requirements.

See Academics to learn more about applying Summer Abroad coursework toward your major/minor/General Education requirements.

Auditing is not an option.

*Note: Semester students who will apply for Summer Financial Aid should contact Summer Abroad to inquire about enrolling in additional unit(s).

Courses

Education (EDU) 192. Internship (4 units)

Students will intern approximately 35 hours per week at their program site and will be able to apply for transcript notation through the UC Davis Internship and Career Center.

Education (EDU) 198. Education Internship Reflection (2 units, P/NP)

Education Internship Reflection is intended as a forum to connect the work students do at their internship to its broader social and cultural context. Through online discussions and assignments, students will have a community with whom to share their reflections and observations about their internship placements and to explore the significance of interning in an international context.

Internship Placement Process

After students enroll in the program through UC Davis, they will be asked to complete a separate application that is required in order to participate in the program. Students will receive information about deadlines for the supplementary application from the program provider, CISabroad. CISabroad’s supplemental application will require a resume, cover letter, and an online application. Because all interns in this program will complete similar tasks during their internships and be placed in similar settings, no interviews are required as part of the placement process. Students are encouraged to be open-minded and approach the program with a willingness to learn and grow, both professionally and personally. Final internship placement will be determined just prior to departure.

Resume and Cover Letter Resources

We strongly recommend that all students meet with an advisor at the UC Davis Internship and Career Center to have their resume and cover letter reviewed prior to submitting these documents to CATIE. The ICC provides many online resources, such as resume, cover letter and letter of recommendation examples.
