Hello, everyone! My name is Selena Anguiano and I am a third year at UC Davis; I am majoring in Sustainable Environmental Design and minoring in Community and Regional Development. Originally, I am from a small town up in northern California where I enjoy the shade of the tall redwood trees and the music of the ocean.
I first studied abroad in spring quarter of my second year. I spent almost three months in the city of Madrid studying Spanish Language and Culture in a small international center where the teachers knew your name and were able to create a relationship with you. This program allowed me to live in a city for the first time in my life and helped me learn to be independent. I originally chose this program because I wanted to strengthen my first language and to reconnect with my roots. Not only was I able to accomplish both, but also I was able to create a diverse network of friends from all over the world.
Studying abroad was a life changing experience that was worth every sacrifice. I originally never imagined studying abroad because of financial constraints, academic scheduling issues, an fear. Yet, with proper time and organization, I was able to receive an international scholarship to make my dream come true. It was my first time traveling outside of the country and I was very unsure of my decision -- until I got there and realized that it was all worth it. This experience abroad helped me see how different the world really is and how we can use our experiences to improve our own little worlds.
It is an honor to work for the Study Abroad Department and I am beyond excited to inspire students like myself to travel and open their doors to new opportunities, both academically and personally. Traveling abroad is a chance to get lost and in the process be able to find oneself.
The memories await!
