Hello everyone! My name is Malin von Knorring and I am currently a second year UC Davis student studying Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior.
My passion for traveling began when my grandparents took me on my first trip to Italy when I was 14. We explored many cities including Florence, Rome, Pisa, Venice, Siena and Cinque Terre. I also got to live with an Italian host family who didn’t speak any English. Since my Italian vocabulary only consisted of the words “ciao” and “spaghetti,” we had a lot of memorable dinners playing charades to communicate. My favorite part about Italy was the people; we may not have spoken the same language, but everyone’s welcoming, lively personalities made me feel like a part of their culture. The whole trip was an amazing experience that taught me to step out of my comfort zone in order to explore everything the world has to offer. Most importantly though, I gained an appreciation for different cultures and people (I also gained an extra 10 pounds from all the gelato, but it was all worth it).
That trip sparked my passion of traveling the globe in search of new adventures. Since then I’ve also traveled to Sweden, Germany and throughout the U.S. Next Spring, I plan to spend a Quarter abroad in Madrid, Spain so I can improve my Spanish speaking skills and experience the vibrant culture.
My goal as a Study Abroad Peer Advisor is to inspire the same excitement for traveling that I have; there are so many amazing international opportunities out there to take advantage of! If you come into our office, we can help you find the one that best fits your interests. There’s a whole world to explore and I’d love to be the one to help you take that first step.
This quote sums it up best:
“We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.” –Anonymous
