Hello! My name is Lea Randrup and this upcoming Fall 2018 will be my senior year as a Managerial Economics Major and Accounting Minor.
Ever since I was a kid, I had a dream that I would travel to every part of the world that I could touch on my globe. However, I grew up in a family where we depended on my father, who was an overseas worker. As a young girl, I had to appreciate everything that I had knowing that we were on a tight budget. All of that changed when I migrated from the Philippines to the small city of San Francisco, California. For the first time in my life, I felt overjoyed and excited to be living and studying abroad.
The Study Abroad Program is the first program that caught my eye as a UC Davis student. I went to many events and learned more about the different countries and programs that they had to offer for students. I wanted to go to France for their Fashion Marketing Class, but I also wanted to go to Germany for their Economics Classes. In the end, I chose to go to South Korea because I wanted to learn more about Korean culture and because I am massive fan of Korean dramas.
South Korea did not disappoint and my experience there helped me become the confident person I am today. The moment I stepped out of the plane, I knew I needed to be more independent and make my own choices since I could only rely on myself. I have grown to understand every aspect of traveling that I like and dislike, and I applied it to my future adventures.
I hope that all of the people who are struggling to find a place to study abroad know that I can be a resource to help them find their way. Whether you have questions about studying abroad, or you are just overwhelmed due to the many options laid out in front of you, you can stop by at the Study Abroad Center and I will be there to help you.
