Hello! My name is Lauren Bravo, and I am a third-year Cinema and Digital Media major at UC Davis.
When I entered UC Davis, I knew I wanted to study abroad. I came to UC Davis inspired by my trip to Spain when I was seventeen years old. My travels to Spain marked my first time in another country, and it left me longing to travel again.
In the summer of 2017, I had the opportunity to fulfill my desire to go abroad. I traveled to Germany, Switzerland, and Italy while furthering my studies in my major. A defining feature of studying abroad was the way the topics I learned in the classroom directly correlated to where I was at. In the classroom, my professor discussed film festivals and their impact on film distribution while my classmates and I attended the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland. Personally, I found the festival to be the highlight of the trip as we had access to attend every film screening at the festival. Being a spectator at the festival broadened my perspective on contemporary filmmaking. My experience abroad led me to learn about new cultures, make new friends, and be even more invested in my studies.
At the Study Abroad Office, I am grateful to have the opportunity to highlight students’ global learning journeys—with some added knowledge from my own global learning journey of filmmaking!
