My name is Christal Juarez and coming this Fall Quarter I will be a second-year student majoring in English and will be pursuing an International Relations major as well.
Growing up in a household that didn't have the sufficient finances to do much traveling, my vacations largely consisted of going to Mexico every couple of years to visit relatives. I have always loved running about in a small-town of Mexico near the city of Guadalajara. I am often in awe by the new things I discover every visit and the old things I often miss while I'm away and yet I have always found myself intrigued by the possibility of traveling to many other places and meeting people from all over the globe.
My parents have always been great supporters and have encouraged me to look for other opportunities that would provide me with resources that would allow me to visit the world. They knew education was my best resource and are avid motivators in my academic pursuit, leading me where I am today.
And where I am today just so happens to be at the beautiful city-state of Geneva, Switzerland! In fact, I am overlooking the breathtaking lake of Geneva as write this just now.
With the encouragement of my family, I decided to apply for a Study Abroad experience of my own which has lead me to here, studying the Politics of Global Inequality. Before Study Abroad, I had never been outside of North America, and have visited very few American States other than my home-state of California. Now I have seen Geneva, London, and Barcelona! I am so unbelievably happy to be standing where I am today, and I hope to be helping many of you down a similar path as well. Hope to see you at the Study Abroad Center soon
