Get to Know Your Destination

From Lonely Planet

Say Nottinghamshire and people think of one thing – Robin Hood. Whether the hero woodsman ever really existed is hotly debated, but the county makes much of its connections to the outlaw from Locksley. Story-telling seems to be in Nottinghamshire’s blood – other local celebs include DH Lawrence, of Lady Chatterley’s Lover fame, and hedonist poet Lord Byron. The city of Nottingham is the bustling hub, but venture into the surrounding countryside and you’ll find a weather of historic towns and stately homes surrounding the green bower of Sherwood Forest.
