Major/Minor Credit

Your classes abroad can fulfill major, minor, graduation, general education, college breadth and foreign language requirements. You are encouraged to talk about your study abroad options with a professional staff advisor here at UC Davis Study Abroad and/or your college or departmental advisor.

How do I get Major or Minor credit for courses taken abroad?

UC Davis Summer Abroad, UC Davis Summer Abroad Internships, UC Davis Quarter Abroad, and UC Davis Seminars Abroad

For students going on UC Davis Summer Abroad, UC Davis Summer Abroad Internships, UC Davis Quarter Abroad, and UC Davis Seminars Abroad programs: your classes will fulfill major, minor, graduation, general education, college breadth, and foreign language requirements, as listed in the UC Davis General Catalog.

Non-UC Davis students looking to enroll in a UC Davis Summer Abroad program are responsible for checking with their campus advisors to ensure the UC Davis courses taken abroad can be applied as needed—and the same applies for other-UC students looking to enroll in a UC Davis Quarter Abroad program.

University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP)

With UCEAP, all of the courses you take abroad will return to UC Davis as UC credit toward graduation, will be recorded on your UC transcript, and factored into your UC GPA.

However, if you wish for your courses abroad to fulfill major or minor credit, this is determined through your academic department. Each department has their own procedures and petition processes. In every case, it is crucial that you save all of your coursework from abroad. Please review How to Obtain Major or Minor Credit on UCEAP (PDF).
