Organic Chemistry in Nottingham

On Location

Accommodations

Accommodations are provided at Global Point Residences, located right in the city center, with access to shops, food, nighlife, as well as the train station. Amenities include bedding pack, wifi throughout the accommodation, common areas, fully fitted kitchens, and single bedrooms and baths (more information). The other students staying in the accommodations are generally international students studying at Nottingham Trent University.  Please note that the walk from Global Point to the University Park campus is just under an hour. While it is very common for British students to walk that distance, you may prefer to take the bus, which takes between 10-15 minutes.

Meals

With a fully fitted kitchen and a grocery store nearby, students are encouraged to save money by preparing their own meals. Some excursions may include lunch.

Excursions and Day Trips

Students will have six pre-arranged field trips to various locations in Britain as part of their 3-unit Chemistry in Culture course. Field trips will include day trips and museum visits throughout the country, such as a trip to the Science Museum in London and a day in Cambridge to see Isaac Newton’s infamous apple tree. Field trips are subject to change.

Study Abroad Advisory of Student Risk

All participants must download and review the following information prior to departure. Any questions should be directed to the Program Coordinator.

About United Kingdom

From Lonely Planet

Say Nottinghamshire and people think of one thing – Robin Hood. Whether the hero woodsman ever really existed is hotly debated, but the county makes much of its connections to the outlaw from Locksley. Story-telling seems to be in Nottinghamshire’s blood – other local celebs include DH Lawrence, of Lady Chatterley’s Lover fame, and hedonist poet Lord Byron. The city of Nottingham is the bustling hub, but  venture into the surrounding countryside and you’ll find a weather of historic towns and stately homes surrounding the green bower of Sherwood Forest.

Weather and Climate

Though the time of your arrival in September may be warm, prepare for dreary British weather in the autumn season! Expect grey cloudy skies and fairly regular rain showers, and dress with plenty of layers.
