Hello! My name is Julianna Roy, and I am a fourth year Psychology major with minors in French and Statistics. In Fall 2015, I studied in Lyon, France through the UCEAP Language and Culture program, and I had an incredible cultural experience. My program allowed me to live in the country I have always dreamed of visiting, and I am finally able to speak to my dad in French - his first language.

I have wanted to study abroad since I was little, and many people told me studying abroad was the best experience they had in college, or that it was the one thing they wish they had done. I spoke with the advisors at the UC Davis Study Abroad office, and they helped me narrow down my choices to find the ideal program for me. I spent four months living in a homestay with a French couple, in an apartment that overlooked the Saone River. I walked to school every day, often with a croissant or baguette in hand. I had the chance to take language classes as well as culture classes, and I made significant progress toward my French minor. One of my favorite things in Lyon was the market by the river, where I would sample the greatest cheeses at every chance possible. By the end of my four months, Lyon felt like a second home to me, and I cannot wait to go back and visit.

Studying abroad increased my love of travel; I visited several places in Europe, including Barcelona, Ireland, Budapest and Venice, so now packing and getting on a plane no longer stresses me out. I love hearing about everyone’s travels through UC Davis Study Abroad and I am very excited to help students find their perfect program. So come visit us in the office, listen to more of our stories, and learn how you can get started on the best adventure of your life!

À bientôt!
