Hello everyone! My name is Matthew Dea and starting Fall 2016 I will be a second year student pursuing a Biological Sciences degree.
I had a relatively normal childhood living in San Francisco, California, but when I was nine years old, I was whisked away to live in the dry desert country of Botswana. My mother’s job took us here, and I have very vivid memories of stepping off that tiny propeller plane in Gaborone, taking in the surrounding environment, and realizing that this is just the beginning of a new chapter in my life.
Since then I also called South Africa and then Uganda home, where I lived for six years and graduated high school. I can confidently say that my love for traveling started off when I was very young, going on exotic trips to Thailand, Romania, and Mozambique, just to name a few places.
Coming to Davis, I could not let my wanderlust die down, so I began to to explore study abroad options in my freshman year. Nothing really caught my eye until very last minute when I received a scholarship to continue studying the Chinese language in Wuxi, China, during the summer of 2016. I’m always eager to share my experiences living and studying abroad, so I hope to see you in the UC Davis Study Abroad Center looking for a life changing experience!
